When upgrading the Dash QT Core wallet from 12.0.x to 12.1.x you have to make a decision about where the data directory will be located. The data directory stores the files that give you access to your Dash (e.g.
wallet.dat). As of version 12.1.x, the default data directory is now
DashCore. Prior to version 12.1.x, the default data directory was
The two main upgrade paths are 1) accept the new default
DashCore directory and move your
wallet.dat file, or 2) point the data directory to an existing
For either option, you will start by downloading the official Dash QT Core wallet from https://www.dash.org/downloads/
Option 1: Upgrade with the new
DashCore data directory.
(This is our preferred method of upgrade.)
After downloading and installing the new wallet, start it as you normally did with previous versions.
Accept the default data directory
If this is your first time installing version 12.1.x, you will be asked to select the data directory. For this option, accept the default
After clicking OK the wallet will initialize and open. Note that by selecting the default
DashCore directory, the wallet will need to rebuild the blockchain.This could take some time (2 - 4 hours) depending upon your internet connection.
Let the wallet complete a synch with the network.
Locate your data directory
From the Tools menu select Show Automatic Backups. This will open a directory in your finder. From your keyboard hit
up arrow. You should now be in the
DashCore data directory and should see a

- Click the Windows Start menu or Search and type

wallet.dat file from the
Dash directory to the
Option 2: Point the data directory to an existing
If this is your first time installing version 12.1.x, you will be asked to select the data directory. For this option, select Use a custom data directory and change the end of the path to read
After your wallet opens, the blockchain database will need to be rebuilt. This could take some time (2 - 4 hours) depending upon your internet connection. Once the blockchain has been rebuilt you will see your old transactions.
